EA is IRS Enrolled Agent. What are tax attorneys looking for in paralegals who have little or no experience? Research skills? Tax preparation skills? EA skills? Also, if someone files bankruptcy, can he sit for the EA exam and become an EA?

My ex-wife called me last night and is planning to remarry. She needs an annulment paper signed in order for her to join the Catholic church and remarry a guy from that church. We were divorced about 10 years ago. What will this annulment do to our divorce decree that we signed in 1999? I have finally gotten finished with child support payments as all the kids are now over 18, but what about the other parts of the decree? Will they still be valid?

This info is for a freind whom has consulted w/ an atty. and stated that the only option is a settlement. This party does not have the money for a settlement nor enough assets to sell off to erase the tax liability. All wages garnished and personal asset(s) i.e. car has lien attached. Bankruptcy won’t work due to this is non-dischargeable debt. This person understands the need to pay and has a good job-salary, but the IRS has left her/him with 3 to live on ea. month. Bascially poverty-stricken. No doubt the gov’t has legal basis to due this, but, but, I believe it’s unfair/ unjust to propel a person into dire straits with collection efforts. If the garnishment was not at the present level e.g. leaving this person with say 00 to live on monthly, it would be affordable. I don’t think the IRS… tax system, was setup to render a preson homeless or otherwise. Thank you for any assistance.

I am trying to help a family memebr avoid bankruptcy and her situation is dire . She lives in an area where the real estate market has stalled out . Her primary residence has a huge payment plus two home equity loans . She has a smaller house that she had been renting out just to make payments . The tenants moved out with no notice . Each month she gets deeper into debt . If she were to sell either house she would still be upside down on the loans . She is at a point where she is not able to pay the larger loan . What will happen to the two equity loans if she goes into foreclosure ? Her credit is already pretty well destroyed .
