Grrrrrrrr, it’s so frustating. I’m waiting on tenterhooks for the California Supreme Court to make a decision. I know they said 90 days from March 5, but when is that exactly?
How do you feel about this, and same sex marriage in other states and countries? And are you LGBT or other?

It is frightening that a proposition, whose rejection would have been so dangerous, came anywhere close to losing on November 4th. Don’t get me wrong, I respect homosexuals as individuals and will fight for their liberties as much as my own. But marriage, however, between same-sex couples is not a liberty nor a right. It is an perversion and defilement that endangers the rights of heterosexual marriages.

Proposition banned same sex marriages. Marriage is defined as
the legal or religious ceremony that formalizes the decision of a man and woman to live as husband and wife, including the accompanying social festivities: to officiate at a marriage
Since marriage for centuries has been a religious institution and civil unions are endorsed by the government to provide two people of the same sex legal right. Shouldn’t the seperation of church and state be applied here?
The supreme court has ruled that their is a Seperation of Church and state. So that is what should be used here.

Most Republicans claim that legalizing same sex marriage will destroy the sanctity of marriage, so when it eventually becomes legalized you Republicans who are married might as well file for divorce because marriage won’t mean $hit anymore correct ? Because giving them queers the right to marry each other is obviously going to directly destroy your own personal marriage.

Almost all of New England and Iowa. Pretty much every other advanced nation in the world. There’s absolutely no rational reason to not allow same sex couples to get married. California, usually on the vanguard of progressive change, looks foolish here, don’t you think?
Swampy V: Comparing a homosexual relationship between two consenting adults to any of the other "relationships" that you mention is nothing but pure ignorance. Do you really not see the difference?

First, I am not against same sex marriages, I am just wondering.
People who say they are against gay marriage say that a portion of the purpose of marriage is to pro-create, and since same sex couples can not pro-create they should not be able to get married. However, what about heterosexual couples that can not have children? My wife had her uterus removed at 18 because she had uterine cancer, we are unable to have children. We also have a close couple that do not want to have children, because they work too much.
Should these people not be able to get married?

Or, for that matter, why is it important for ANY supporter of similar propositions in various states to keep same sex couples from marrying?
Why does marriage NEED to exclude same-sex couples? Why does it NEED to remain between opposite-sex couples?

This is not a question for people who believe in the basic human rights of gay people, and I don’t want scripture. I just want to understand how exactly people against gay marriage, and more importantly families with two same sex parents believe these things are bad for society.
What are some actual problems you see? I need to understand this side.
10 points for the answer that makes the most sense (not the one I agree with, although I will give thumbs up). And if you have some actual proof of your point you will get more credibility.

Hi there! I have been reading around but I’m a bit confused. I always thought proposition 8 was the law that is making same-sex marriage legal, but when I look online it seems (how the sources are worded) that it was the law banning same-sex marriage. So could someone just clear up for me which one it is?
Thank you!
