The IRS placed a levy on my daughter’s paychecks today. She hasn’t filed a tax return in nearly 10years. Should she hire a tax attorney , or deal directly with the IRS to resolve this ? For her , it is VERY critical for the levy to be lifted asap , as she is a single mother of three … We need GREAT advice , and of course the tax attorney is telling her that dealing directly with the IRS may NOT end with the levy being lifted … but of course , he claims he can guarantee it being lifted if we pay him 00 ..

Does the irs call people they are going to audit?

I had a message on my phone and so I called the 1-800 number, it answered the IRS. Evidently they called me, could it be an audit, should I get a hold of a tax attorney? I think it is for real. I file my taxes every year, although I haven’t yet.

What do with with a Federal Tax Mistake?

I gave all my paperwork to my tax preparer, and she did our taxes wrong. My wife found the mistake, which appears to have been a snowball of mistakes because her initial mistake ultimately rolls us into another tax bracket.

We are going to fix the mistake, file a 1040X, which will have us owing. I am wondering if we should get a tax attorney to handle at this point, or take care of ourselves. I heard the IRS does not like these kinds of mistakes.

and we pay him 650.00 for his services. When we received our audit papers from the IRS they asked us to give proof of everything on schedule A. Most of everything on schedule A was made up by our tax attorney. We stupidly signed our taxes without really checking it out. Would the tax attorney be liable for inflating and/or putting down false information on a tax return form?

Tax Attorney in Florida Reccomendations needed!?

    Dear Friends,

I plan to hire a Tax Attorney or Criminal Defense Attorney with expertise in Tax Law in order to meet with an IRS Criminal Investigation Officer, since my friend was requested by this officer to meet him in his office.

Any recommendation of experienced attorney in Florida, preferably in Miami area, will be greatly appreciated.

My K back tax debt to the IRS has been classified as "currently not collectible" for the past two years. I recently won a Disability settlement from Social Security and received a check for 4 1/2 years of back SS Disability payments (FYI: I am no longer disabled and am now working part-time). What I wanna know is, can I open a new bank account (I don’t presently have one) and deposit the lump-sum SSA check without having some kind of alarm go off at IRS HQ which results in their hoovering that account dry the second it clears? I fully intend to use a big chunk of the money to work out some kind of payment or offer in comprimise plan with them, but I need to be able to use some of it for urgent medical, dental and other essential expenses (such as a good tax attorney) first. Any information and or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Where possible, please cite references, regulations, IRS publications, etc. so I can make sure I have my facts straight.

IRS Disputes my 2005 tax return, now what?

I received a IRS envelope yesterday. (Oh joy!)

And they are disputing my return for 2005.

In the letter, they say I "may" owe them ,000.

Can someone out there tell me what steps to take to get out of this mess?

Is this basically an audit and can I negotiate some type of payment
    schedule??

Should I represent myself or hire a good CPA/Tax Attorney?

Thanks in advance to all who can help me.
