My house has recently been placed on the market. I have never been late on a payment for my mortgage and I could refinance but, I am also going through a divorce. I would rather sell the house and try to get out from underneath it. I just received a notice from the Town that a Tax Lien is going to be placed on my property on May 1st. How is this going to affect me and the sale of my home?

I’ve heard yes and I’ve heard no. Does anyone know for sure? I know that NC has tax deed sales, possibly with redemption periods. In that case you would be paid interest on your investment just like a tax lien, but you would have to put up a lot more money up front. I want to know if I can buy a true tax lien, for just the amount of taxes owed, plus admin. fees and such. Thanks for your help.

Does the mortgage lien stay with the property or the original owner?
How much does it typically cost to foreclose if the tax lien is not paid back with interest? Does the mortgage company or bank have the opportunity to pay for the tax lien?

I just found out my boyfriend has a tax lien on his credit while we are trying to rent a place to live. How hard is it to get off his credit? And how long does this stay on his credit?

My husband and I have been purchasing tax lien certificates in Florida and I would like to know if anyone out there has experience investing in other states and what that experience was like. We are planning on investing in other states but would like to know the best ones with the highest interest and least amount of redemption period. Thanks for your input!
